The M397 is an Israeli 155 mm (6.1 inch) base-bleed, base-ejection, submunition (bomblet) dispensing cargo (cluster) projectile, also referred to as an extended range dual-purpose improved conventional munition (ER-DPICM). The M397 carries forty nine M85 submunitions, their release over the target area controlled by an electronic time (ET) fuze.
